February 25, 2012 - It’s a boy! Here’s the cake that I made for my cousin’s baby shower. This will be her third baby, but first boy. Oh boy!
This is a motorcycle cake german chocolate cake with heath& vanilla buttercream filling inside. This was first time making a motorcylce cake - it took me about ~5 hours just to make the topping on the cake. That was the toughest part, but I think it turned out all right. I gained more experience working with black buttercream fondant…it’s pretty tricky, but well worth it. This was a fun cake to make. Congrats to the Metcalf’s!
One of my good friend’s asked me to make her daughter’s 7th birthday cake. She wanted a dinosaur theme. The top picture is a photo of what my friend sent to me - she wanted to me to replicate the cake. The rest of the photos are my “take” on the cake. The last photo is of the birthday girl and her cake! I wasn’t able to make the party, but her mom told me that she loved it! Makes me happy!
Yay! I got to use my new cricut machine again. So, my other sis wanted a pretty birthday cake so I decided I’d make her one. I surprised her with this cake. She didn’t know what I was going to make so it was fun to see the look on her face. Inside was a german chocolate with vanilla buttercream & heath bar bits filling cake. Yum! I think this is one of my most favorite cakes ever!
My sis asked me to make her a birthday cake. She told me that she wanted zebra stripes and red flowers on the cake. Here’s what I made. Inside was a yellow cake with vanilla buttercream & fresh strawberry filling. I learned so much from this cake. I learned how to put fresh fruit inside a cake :o) This is the first cake I made with my new cricut cake decorating machine. I can’t wait to make more cakes!
Kenny wanted a forty niners brithday cake. Here’s my take on the cake. The lettering was a bit of a challenge. I stenciled the letters myself…but I’m pretty proud. Here’s his cake! Inside was a simple white cake with vanilla & heath bar bits filling.
One of my bestest buddies was having her 21st birthday so I wanted to make her a special cake. Since her favorite color is lavender, I decided to make her a simple white cake w/ purple flowers. Here’s the cake that I made. It was a white cake with cream cheese frosting…all made from scratch with my new stand mixer. This is the first cake I made w/ my new stand mixer! I was so excited to use it!
Here are some pictures of the white roses I made for my mom’s 60th birthday cake.
Here’s the final cake! I made the calla lilies and roses, but the cake was a store bought cake. I was in a rush and I didn’t have a pan large enough to feed 50 people :( Everyone seemed to like it. My mom was happy.
Baby shower cake! Here’s a cake that me and my cousin made for her friend’s baby shower. This was my first experience with black buttercream fondant. I loved how it was black (making black fondant is very time consuming), but the texture was too , too soft. I seriously cut like 50 pieces of the black zebra stripes because they kept getting stuck together and losing shape so I had to make more stripes. Oh, well it was worth it. Here’s the cake. My cousin assembled the cake. This was her first cake…she did a great job!
August 13, 2011 - My niece, Rosalyin, was visiting from Washington for the summer and since her birthday was coming up, we decided to make her a birthday cake. She was so excited to make this cake. It took just about forever for her to decide what to put on the cake, but it was worth it. Here’s her beautiful cake!
Rosalyn and her cake!
The boys did a good job singing to her.
Auntie Myrna thought the white thing was a ghost, but it was an ANGEL! lol
July 2, 2011 - My sis & her bf bought a house together! Here’s the cake that I made them. She had a fourth of July theme so I made them a lil red, white, & blue cake with a smirf-like house on top (that’s what my sis wanted). :)
I added a few flowers to the cake to cover up my mistakes ;)
Congrats to first time home owners!
The first piece. I made a German chocolate cake filled with vanilla, heath, & semi- sweet chocolate butter cream filling. My favorite cake so far!
Look at all that butter cream oozing out! Yummy. I got the recipe on the Wilton.com forum. Next time I will make sure not to smash the heath bar so much (some ppl didn’t know I added heath bar to it).
Me with the happy couple. Can’t wait to do their baby shower & wedding cakes!
June 26, 2011 - I was asked to make a baby shower cake for my sister’s best friend. It was going to be outside so I was a little nervous to make the cake (hoping that it wouldn’t melt or fall apart), but I’m pretty happy the way it turned out. And I think she liked it, too. :)))
Here is a cake I found online that matched her baby shower invitations.
Here’s how I started the cake….
A few days before the party, I began to work on the topper. This is what I made. I knew it would take 3-4 days for the bow to dry so luckily I had some spare time to make the bow. It was really hard to get a brown color. I probably used an entire container of brown gel just to get this color.
Jackie’s mom, Rhonda, asked me to add more teddy bears to the cake so I made two little baby teddy bears with pacifiers to match the cake topper. I tried to make different shades of brown bears to add to the cake.
Here’s the happy family with the cake!
Cheers to Jackie & Art. The proud parents-to-be with their cake! Picture was taken by the baby shower photographer.
Here’s a close up. Picture was taken by the baby shower photographer.
First slice! This was my first time adding filling to a cake… a white cake with vanilla butter cream & strawberry jam filling. This picture was taken by the baby shower photographer.
All of us with the mommy-to-be. We love you, Jackie! What a successful baby shower!
June 18, 2011 - I was asked to make a cake for my Goddaughter, Amira’s, 4th birthday party. She just started swimming lessons so why not make her a mermaid cake? Her mom told me she wasn’t a fan of Ariel, so I just found a cute mermaid doll to use as a topper.
Here’s the cake my friend wanted me to make:
My start on the cake…
I made these waves by using candy melts & adding a bit of blue gel to get it to this color. This was my first time making waves…I’m pretty proud of myself. :)
The day before the party…I made all these while watching TV. I don’t have a fish cutter, so I made my fish out of circles (pac man looking fish!) lol. I also baked the cake that night so that it would be moist & fresh for the party.
The next day, I iced the cake with whipped strawberry frosting.
I made the fondant & put waves on the cake.
The final cake! It took me ab out 3 hours to put the cake together. Good thing the party started at 5pm! :)
And here is the birthday girl & her cake! I think she liked it. I didn’t get a good picture of her with her cake, but she was excited at the party. Happy 4th, Amira Lei!
May 23, 2011 - My friend, Jessica, came to the bay for the weekend and we decided to celebrate by making cake pops! She gave us professional tips on how to make cake pops the “right” way because the first time I tried, my cake pops turned in to cake balls :( So, I was glad she was here to help us! SO much fun hanging out with my loverlies!
May 20, 2011 - I was asked to whip up some cupcakes for my sister’s boyfriend’s birthday. I made orange frosting using red and yellow gel, grabbed some oreos, and here they are! A little sloppy work, but I needed em right away.
May 20, 2011 - I made this cake as a surprise for my BF’s best friend. He loves the Giants. This was my first sport’s team cake and I think it went okay. I messed up in a few spots, but luckily you can’t tell ;) I just covered it up with fondant. hehe
May 18, 2011 - My mom asked me to make a money lei for her co-worker’s son. She chose gold and black as the accent colors. I used quarters (and saran wrap) as as the base to hold the lei together. I’ve been making these for years now…they’re cute and fun to make!
April 2011 - Here’s a bridal shower cake I made for my SIL’s (sis in law) sister-in-law! It was fun. I had a few wrinkles at the bottom of this cake so I just covered it up with fondant. For the bow: this was the bow I made in cake decorating class so I just added shimmery powder and voila!
April 2011 - My sis-in-law asked me to make bridal shower cupcakes for her soon-to-be sis-in-law’s (I know sounds confusing) bridal shower. The theme for her wedding is blue cherry blossoms. I made 24 cupcakes and had a few left over so I decided to make a few hearts out of strawberries to put on the extra ones. i <3 strawberries!
I was asked to make invitations for my good friend’s baby shower…she’s having a boy! She wanted a teddy bear theme so I went with brown and baby blue for the invitations. I love that color combintaion. I also printed out little pictures of her sonogram to add on the invitations just so that everyone can see her lil buddle of joy!
April 4, 2011 - So, somehow I got sucked in to take the second class…fondant & gum paste and I’m glad I did! Here is my first fondant project. I learned how to put it all together using gum paste glue! This bow took almost 4 days to dry. yikes!
April 2, 2011 - I was asked to make cupcakes for my cousin’s baby shower. She didn’t know what she wanted as the theme, so I just decided to make shaggy mum flower, teddy bear, & balloon cupcakes. I added a lil touch by printing out her sonogram & attaching every picture to tooth picks to add a little pizazz!
I’ve been a fan of cupcakes for SO long. My favorite cupcakes are SusieCake cupcakes…they are delicious. So, anyways this was another one of our projects from class - Shaggy mum’s and pom pom flower cupcakes.
